National Slam the Scam Day

Protect Yourself and Your Loved Ones from Social Security Scams

On National Slam the Scam Day, and every day, we arm you with the knowledge you need to recognize Social Security-related scams and prevent scammers from stealing your money and personal information.

This Slam the Scam Day, join us in spreading awareness and helping protect your loved ones and community by taking these important steps:

  1. Learn About the Latest Scams
The more you know, the quicker you can spot a scam. Common red flags include:
  • An unexpected issue or offer of a prize or benefit increase.
  • Urgent pressure to act immediately.
  • A request for unusual payment methods like cryptocurrency, gift cards, gold bars, or wire transfers; especially when they promise to “keep your money safe.”
  1. Report Scams Immediately
If you or someone you know falls victim to a scam, don’t feel embarrassed; scammers target everyone. Victims should report scams as soon as possible to help prevent further damage.
  2. Educate Others with Our Scam Alert Fact Sheet
Sharing our Scam Alert fact sheet is a great way to help others protect themselves. The more people who are informed, the less likely scammers are to succeed.
  3. Report Social Security Scams to the SSA Office of the Inspector General (OIG)
If you come across a Social Security-related scam, report it to the Social Security Administration’s Office of the Inspector General (OIG). Your actions can help stop these scams and protect others.

Let’s make every day a Slam the Scam Day and work together to stop fraud in its tracks!
